Yucca Valley Hospice Director Receives Leadership Award
20 Mar 2007

Merry Missett, Yucca Valley hospice director of the Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties (VNAIC) bested 12 other directors and managers of the organization for this year’s VNAIC Leadership Award presented March 12 at the Riverside Convention Center during the organization’s 76th Annual Meeting.

Her nomination reads, “Merry is great at giving “opportunities” that allow staff to step out of their comfort zone.

She encourages staff to be the best they can be and has supported the scheduling that allows staff to return to school. She leads by example.

Missett has a very low turnover of staff in her office and 100 percent employee satisfaction on the 2006 employee survey. Patient satisfaction is often at 100 percent as well.

Staff says that Missett encourages everyone to succeed by believing in themselves. Asked about outcomes of the service provided, some have said that they have seen for themselves the difference they make in the life of patients and their families.

"In addition to calling Missett the best supervisor they've ever had, staff members also said she is consistent, strong and motivating mentoring her staff and other managers.

Missett demonstrates her skill and expertise everyday with a positive affirmation of all employees and patients.

She loves to teach by example and is not afraid to go out into the field to support staff and care for the patients and their families.

Her other attributes- laughter and a warm smile, integrity that inspire trust and confidence, a willingness to learn new things and expecting nothing from her team that she wouldn’t do herself.
